The fare payment card is called “Myki Card”. The initial purchase costs AU$6 and you can continue to top up as needed. If travelling outside the Free Tram Zone, the passenger will have to pay for the fare via Myki Card.

Free Tram Zone?

A zone where passengers can use the tram for free located in the business district in Melbourne, known as the CBD (Central Business District), is an area where you can ride the tram without using your Myki Card and paying any fees. For the station that you do not need to pay, there will be a label said “Free Zone”. This is another great welfare from the Australian government.
